Farewell to amazing friends

August found us with two giant holes.

Our close friends John and Molly moved to Chicago with their 3 daughters Maya, Anna, and Hazel. Terren and Maya brought our families together 10 years ago as they bonded at preschool, wiping each other’s butts, “reading" each other books before they could read, and chasing each other around in circles. We are so grateful for that serendipity — which brought us playdates with endless giggles, dinners with deep conversations, and hours of laughing and crying through self-deprecating tales of our  work, parenting, marriage, family, and human tribulations and foibles.

Our newer friends Maya and Loren moved back to Oxford with their children Amelia and Theo. They dropped out of the universe into our lives only two years ago because Maya arrived on a sabbatical, needing piano teacher references for Amelia. Joe, Maya’s colleague and also Lynn’s cousin and Rachel, Maya’s college friend and our friend as well, connected Maya to Lynn. Suffice it to say, that in the two short years we were blessed to have them only 10 blocks away, we were the recipients of what felt like decades’ worth of kindness, thoughtful parenting, humor, wisdom, and generosity.

We are mourning their departures, grateful for the years spent in close proximity.  Perhaps the future will see their return to the area…. but regardless we will find ways to keep them in our lives.
