we're bad at saying no

family camp at echo lake rocked. diego, amili, koda and terren made lanyards, canoed, painted their nails, hiked, went to kiddie kamp, swam in the lake, went to the dance and staff show. nando and lynn did basket weaving for the first time and we christened folks with clue and card playing oh hell. and we loved the thunderstorm!
before heading home, we decided to hike to horseshoe falls in desolation wilderness. we started out in sunny weather on a 1.3 mile hike up to the falls where there would be a waterhole to jump into. after hiking up a lot of granite rock, our group of 4 adults and 4 kids (ages 2, 4, 5, and7) watched the dark grey clouds move in. rain and lighting and thunder started. lots of hikers (with older kids) were coming down as we were going up. the kids rock the hike and we reach one waterhole. the hikers there say that the other one is 1/3 of a mile further up. j decides we can't stop now now that we're so close. granite, rain, thunder, hiking and little kids does not make for the best mix. after a very rough hike much longer than 1/3 of a mile, we get to the water hole all by ourselves. we jump into the cold water in the cold weather. it was an epic jump and an epic hike. we were proud of everyone!
