Waterworld

July was a couple of firsts in bodies of water. First family trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota. First river rafting trip (with 20 friends) in Oregon on the Rogue River.

The Boundary Waters trip was amazing with pristine water that you drink right out of the lake, abundant wildlife, few humans, and one hard-earned walleye fish dinner. We enjoyed the new technology of a 4-person canoe light enough to carry over a portage, so we didn’t have to put the girls in two bows to paddle (or not, as their dad was wont to do in his childhood.)

The rafting trip was glamping at its apex. Maya and Loren invited us to join, and we without hesitation forked out the most expensive per head trip we’ve enjoyed in order to get one last trip with our dear friends. So great. Terren, Amelia, Carina, and Alita bonded in a tweeners' campsite, Koda and Theo overcame their fears and jumped off high rocks into the rivers, and Lynn managed to earn the distinction of the only person that needed saving. Twice.
