Snow town

This was the mountain month for us. It’s also the “feel like a rich white kid” month. Oma and Opa generously share with us their beautiful condo in Snowmass, Colorado. On the puddle jumper flight from San Francisco to Aspen, we look around the plane and it definitely seems like we don’t really belong. Observe the gaggles of blond-haired people in their well-coifed appearances. The people of color count in the less than a handful. The women are often in fur-lined coats, with cowboy boots and puffy lips, and faces that seem like they have been stretched tight from being put in the drier too long.

The global warming changes cut us a break and fixed the winter drought with 20+ inches of snow right before we landed, and another 20+ that came while we were there. Much to baba’s dismay, however, it turned out they weren’t quite as motivated to catch first tracks in the freshies as he was... sometimes it’s more clear than other times that this whole parenting thing is not about the parents. It turned out that lazy days of snowtubing and card games have a sweet value of their own- something that baba could maybe learn to enjoy more often.

The other highlights of the trip and the rest of the month month included a school-night hike with lorca and suzanne and families to the a sunset mussel cookout; the ladies <24 hour trip to Seattle to watch Khanh perform the Little Prince and see CK, rigo, and x; celebrating dd’s birthday with adult vs. kid soccer and firetrucks; swimming/hot tubbing with Cyrkler and Liam outside during a magical snowstorm; enjoying Anne’s amazing 6 dish Chinese New Year dinner; and watching MeiMei's crush on 11 year-old Spencer (Anne is upping the dowry as we speak.). Our time with Oma and Opa was sweet— MeiMei got to spend her birthday again with her birthday buddy, we sleighrode to dinner, and got to enjoy 3 viewings of the nail-biter Olympic curling gold medal game.
