what we knew; what we didn't

August 2013

Terren started Kindergarten full of clinginess, full of tears, full of timidity, full of trepidation. Just joking. Upon arriving to the drop off zone on the first day of carpooling with her classmate's dad whom she barely knew, she told the dad to get back in the car and not follow them into the building. Ballsy, blunt, and brinking on rude. (Wonder whom she got that from.) The dad said she was "sweet" about it….hmmmmm.

As a parent, I (Lynn) always wonder whether and how much a big sibling likes and loves a younger sibling. There are ebbs and flows surely but overall I wonder. This summer I was hanging out with Tank on some steps when I saw Terren running up a grassy field after a kid to whom she knows. I could see from afar that this was not a frolicking run; Terren was chasing this kid with a look of fury that I knew something was not going right. As they neared me, I said, "Hey! Hey! Hey! What's going on?!?" The other kid started breaking down in tear. Gasping with breath, Terren told me that the other kid said she was "going to cut May May's head off….with a knife." Terren started bawling, and walking over to Tank, she wrapper her arms around her. Loyal and deeply protective. (Wonder whom she got that from.)
